Memories of Old - 2025

“A holiday without love is just another day. Make it unforgettable.”

~Unknown~

Memories of old dance in my head this time of year. Well, they don’t physically dance, but you get the idea. I tend to be nostalgic and days of old come rushing back during the holiday season.

I’ve always cherished my childhood memories. Most of us think fondly of our youth and thus, we hold onto things that are dear to us. History magically time stamps these treasures and encapsulates them for our future use as everything changes over time: family traditions, Christmas cards (where did they go?) and even music morphs into the abyss. At least we still have Jose Feliciano singing “Feliz Navidad” to start the holiday season. I’ll even toss in John Lennon’s “Happy Christmas” for good measure. Sabrina Carpenter hip hopping her way through “Nonsense Christmas”… eh, no comment. It feels more like club music and truth be told, I can’t stay up past midnight these days.

Several years ago, I participated in a handwriting exercise. I’ll admit to being a little skeptical about what your signature says about your personality. As I quickly learned though, it’s more insightful than you might think. Everything from the legibility, size & slant of your John or Dorothy Hancock provides details into who you are.

This led to the analysis of why I loop the “A” in my middle initial (Mark A. Carruthers). Apparently, it has real meaning and provides an epiphany of sorts. The continuous, uninterrupted line to complete the letter with a loop indicates I don’t let go of things and have a protective nature. Perhaps I hold onto the past and cherish memories of yesteryear?

It makes sense to me and it’s certainly logical. We all have subliminal patterns and do the unexplainable for various reasons. I never gave my hand writing or looping any thought. It’s a habit so ingrained in my daily life that signing checks, legal documents and so forth is done without psychological considerations.

As we all complete another year, I hope everyone embraces the fond memories of 2025 and tasted all the flavors of life. They too will one day be cherished memories.

Happy holidays and all the best in 2026!

Until next year…

Cheers.
