Older folks don’t always make weekend plans. Unlike days of old where perpetual motion was the objective, having nothing on the calendar is now a right of passage. Thus, when someone asks, “What did you do this weekend?” We don’t say “Nothing” in a gleeful or exuberant manner. We’re simply stating a fact with an “Okay Boomer” sophisticated tone.
The funnier version of older people discussing their weekend adventures pertains to a husband & wife conversation I had the courtesy of hearing.
Wife - “What are you doing today?
Husband - “Nothing.”
Wife - You did that yesterday!”
Husband - “I didn’t finish.”
C’mon now… this is classic. In the words of Larry the Cable Guy, “I don’t care what you say, that there is funny!”
Nothing doesn’t mean boring. It doesn’t even mean nothing. Far from it. You get to freestyle the weekend as though you’re on a Viking Cruise. No schedule. No rules. Eat when you want.
If you’re a photographer, every time you leave the house to run an errand offers a freestyle approach to photo opps. The mere mortal goes out for coffee and bagels on a Saturday morning and sees… wait for it… here it comes… coffee and bagels! They miss all the graphical elements along the way.

A photographer (another mere mortal with different stripes) sees a raindrop covered car window pulling out of the driveway. The water and changing landscape render a kaleidoscope like effect of a constantly changing world. Motor oil isn’t viewed as artistic to the best of my knowledge, until it leaks in the parking lot of your local CVS and becomes a Monet inspired tapestry. Even a quick trip to the Palisades Mall (NY) to purchase a book at Barnes & Noble offers a plethora of lights, shapes, patterns and race cars!
